Creating meaning…during the Holiday Season 2011

Greetings all!
I am back again to share my experiences with creating meaning in the lives of others. I wanted to specifically highlight the necessity of creating meaning this holiday season. I know given the economic climate, 2011 has not been the best year for everyone financially. However, I want to encourage you all to reflect on your current situation and find something for which to be grateful! It could be anything from your job, spouse, children, or just overall health. Once you have found something for which to be grateful, perhaps find a way that you can show your appreciation by giving to someone else who may not possess one of those things.

This past few weeks I have volunteered to serve dinner to underprivileged people within the Des Moines community at a local parish. The experience has been truly humbling and gratifying at the same time. Each time we serve 75-100 people a full dinner meal and provide them the opportunity to take home food to their families for the week. To see people who are so polite and thankful for your assistance is a great thing. I also have the opportunity to talk to them about their personal experiences and background and offer some encouraging words for them to keep going. I strongly suggest you find some way to give back your community and youth especially during this time as people can feel extremely lonely and forgotten. Each day we all have the opportunity to create meaning in the lives of someone else, why not today?
